It addresses these issues in a specific discipline or transdisciplinary manner.</p> <p>AIP is an open-access electronic journal, free of printout prices and with continuous flow, which publishes papers in Spanish and English. The types of papers published by AIP are research articles, theme reviews, and scientific notes, all of which are subject to the peer review process.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Mission </strong></p> <p>To report and disseminate through publications to the scientific community and the general public about new scientific findings and innovative summaries of knowledge in marine and terrestrial biosciences. To support this request, I first give examples of some areas of research in which new original knowledge cannot be achieved without the study of specimens harbored in collections. Then I comment on three worrying aspects of Chilean biological collections (i.e., deficient financing, non-guaranteed perpetuity, and low growth of their holdings), suggesting some possible courses of action to follow to help solve these problems.
