Resumen

Las comunidades bentónicas de la Patagonia chilena presentan una alta biodiversidad en respuesta a la variabilidad de las condiciones ambientales, fuentes de alimentos y hábitats. Este estudio caracterizó una comunidad epibentónica con altos valores de riqueza de especies, dominada por suspensívoros distribuidos en diferentes tipos de hábitats a lo largo del fiordo Puyuhuapi. Múltiples variables ambientales definieron la composición y distribución de estas comunidades; siendo la profundidad y la inclinación y tipo de sustrato determinantes para la epifauna. En este fiordo, el grupo trófico asociado a los alimentadores en suspensión, representan un rasgo funcional que puede tener funciones ecosistémicas  importantes asociadas a los ciclos del carbono y de los nutrientes. Razón por la cual, la información espacio-temporal y funcional de estas comunidades son un insumo fundamental para el monitoreo de estos ecosistemas, especialmente en fiordos con alto impacto de actividades antrópicas como la salmonicultura.
